Sample teardown — a hypothetical plumber

How I'd grow a local plumbing company.

No real client data appears on this site without written permission. This is a worked example so you can see how I think.

The scenario.

A family-owned plumbing company in a mid-size US city. Great reviews, loyal customers, plenty of capacity, but almost all their work comes from word of mouth. When someone googles a plumber in their town, they are nowhere near the top.

What I'd find.

Invisible on Google Ads

No active search campaigns. Every 'emergency plumber near me' search in their area goes straight to a competitor who's paying to be there.

Thin, slow website

Homepage has no clear call-to-action, missing meta description, and loads slowly on mobile, where most 'near me' searches happen.

Underused Google Business Profile

Profile is claimed but barely optimized: few photos, no service list, and only a handful of reviews despite hundreds of jobs.

No tracking

They can't tell which marketing brings calls, so budget gets spent on guesses instead of on what works.

What I'd do, and when.

Weeks 1–2

Foundation and quick wins

  • Launch a tightly-targeted search campaign for high-intent terms
  • Set up call and form conversion tracking from day one
  • Optimize the Google Business Profile: services, photos, review requests

Weeks 3–6

Optimize and expand

  • Cut wasted spend, double down on the keywords driving calls
  • Fix the homepage: clear call to action, faster mobile load
  • Begin local pages targeting their service areas

Months 2–6

Compound the gains

  • Scale winning campaigns within the budget they set
  • Build out organic so calls grow without paying per click
  • Monthly plain-English reporting on calls, leads, and cost per lead

What I would not promise.

You will notice there is no projection table on this page. I removed it. Made-up numbers for a made-up plumber tell you nothing about your business, and a forecast dressed up as a result is exactly the kind of thing this site exists to avoid. What I will tell you is what I would do first, why, and what I would measure — and then you can hold the real numbers against it once they exist.

That's the free teardown. I go through your actual account and send back what I find, including anything that makes me say you shouldn't hire me. You keep the findings either way.
